USSVI  CINCINNATI  BASE  MEMBERSHIP  MEETING
June 23, 2007
 


Meeting was called to order by Commander, Crombie.   Opening  Prayer by Asst. Chaplain, Jon  Barker, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to our Flag.
 
Tolling of Lost Boats: ( Dale Gudorf, COB )
              USS S-28 (SS-133) – Lost on July 4, 1944 - Loss of 50 Crew Members
              USS Robalo (SS-273) – Lost on July 23, 1944 – Loss of 84 Crew Members
              USS Grunion ( SS-216 ) – Lost on July 30, 1942 – Loss of 70 Crew Members
 
Introduction / Welcome to New Member, John Wass
Introduction of members present:  Everyone introduces themselves.
 
Sick Call:  Dave Ashley’s Father is in the Hospital.
 
Lost Patrol Report:  Nothing to report
 
Minutes from previous meeting were read by Secretary, Connie Moore.   A motion was made by Dale Gudorf to accept the minutes as read. Seconded by David Self, motion carried.
 
Treasurers Report ( Dick Hauck):  Subvettes deposited $ 311.00 into SubVets Account, for  
              payback of Loan plus Membership Dues for Ladies to join the SubVets as Aux.
              Members starting 2008.   Balance as to date $2, 286.00.   Motion to accept as read by
              Joe Roszmann, 2nd by Tom Suttmann, motion carried.
 
Newsletter  Report : ( David Self )   Deadline for articles is end of the month.   Cost of postage
              for sending by mail is $15.00.  Some are sent by Mail, rest are sent by e-mail.   David
              asked the Subvetees members to please send him their e-mail address.  Comander,
              Crombie would also like to have these addresses.   Jane Moore said she will  e-mail
              them to Crombie.
 
Web Page Report (David Ashley):  No  Report.    He was absent due to Illness of his Father.
 
Old  Business :   a )  Status of Subvettes.   Crombie asked that the ones present have a short
              meeting after this meeting, to discuss their thought on joining the SubVets as Aux. /
              Associate Members.   b )  July 4th Parade:  We were asked to participate in St. Thomas
              Parade.   Need Liability Insurance – Cost of Basic Insurance is  $ 268. 00 a year.   After
              a brief Discussion a motion was made by Paul Taylor, 2nd by David Self to allow the
              Officers to review this matter and decide if it would be worth the money to buy this
              Insurance.   Motion carried.   During Parade the streets are shut down.  Need to meet
              at Highland Heights High School for lineup.  Be there by 9:15 am.    c )   Insurance for
              2010  Convention:   Dick Young maybe approach National ask if they can possibly
              reduce dues or refund money used on insurance that they use to provide.  Bill Ritter
              had a question on the Insurance.  Terry Arent made a  motion that we form a
              committee to  research this matter and to seek reimbursement  for Insurance cost.
 
             
 
              Seconded by Bill  Roth, motion carried.   d )  July Meeting /Cook-Out ( 28 th ) here at
              our new meeting  facilities.  Will try to make the meeting as short as possible.  
              Members are asked to bring a covered dish to share  plus what ever they want to cook
              on the grill  for themselves / their Family.   e )  We  will soon be setting up meetings on
              the 2010 Convention.       f )  Recruitement  ( Dick Young ):   Nothing really going on.    
              The site he was using for  recruitment, took  the  e-mail address off.   Dick is going to
              see about getting our applications to Sub School Grad’s from area.   Dick also asked
              for someone to be thinking about stepping up to take the Vice  Commanders position.  
              This position should have someone that is being  groomed to step up to be in the
              Commanders position at next election.   g )  Crombie talked  about need to get
              committee people for different functions.  Like”  Tolling, Picnic, etc.    h )  David Self
              will be visiting the USS OHIO in August.   Trying to get both of Ohio’s crews involved
              with us, in sponsoring of the USS OHIO.  Also would like to get all Bases in Ohio
              involved.  Bring “ Sailor of the Year to Ohio for something, like a Ball Game or other
              event.  David will talk more about this at the July meeting.
 
New  Business :  a )  Submarine Float -  Dale Gudorf  is working on getting a fiberglass hull
             made.    His Son-In-Law is building it.   Need to check size of Indy’s Sub (Length & Beam ).
             b )  Veterans Benefits Review:  Need to review.  Crombie maybe get a Rep. from
             Hamilton County to speak on this matter (Maybe Aug. Meeting ).  Ask if they can bring
             some hand-out info.  c )  It was agreed that this is the last meeting the Base will run a
             tab for drinks.  We have to start saving all we can for the 2010 Convention.  
 
Good  of  the  Order :   a )  Reminder:  Need volunteers to chair events - - Need a Vice
             Commander.    b )  Dick Young talked about Jersey Shirts that are for Sale - $25.00
             each, $2.50 extra for name.   Three colors to choose from, Red  / Blue / White.   See
             Dick after the meeting, sign up sheet by Bookkeeper.   c )  Hamilton Co Commissioners
             looking into getting  Sail & Ruter  f/ Cincinnati.    d )  50 / 50 Winner:  Tom  Suttman  
             Also had other prizes that were donated by David Self.
 
Storekeeper’s  Report ( Ted Campbell ):  Rapp has patches in.  May have some new items
             soon.   Reminder:  Logo Shirts on Sale – must pay when ordering.
 
Announcement of next Meeting :  Here at our new meeting place on July 28th  starting at
            Noon– is a Cook-Out.    Details  above.   NOTE:  Base will provide soft drinks.
 
Closing Prayer was given by Asst. Chaplain,  Jon Barker.
